Qualifications for Registration

According to the Statutory Instrument No. 40 of 1994 – The Accountants (Qualifications for Registration) regulations, the following qualifications and experiences are required to be eligible for membership:

 

Associate or Fellowship Grade of Membership

Fully qualified professional accountants holding qualifications from recognised accounting bodies and also holding a minimum of three years practical experience, two such years being post qualifying, can be admitted into membership. Some of the recognised accounting bodies are:

 

a. The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants of the United Kingdom

b. The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of the United Kingdom

c. The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountants of the United Kingdom

d. The Institutes of Chartered Accountants in –

i. England and Wales;

ii. Ireland;

iii. Scotland;

iv. New Zealand;

v.Australia;

vi. Canada; and

vii. Zimbabwe

e)   The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of the United States of America

 

Licentiate Grade of Membership

  1. The Licentiate Examinations of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants.
  2. Successful completion of the penultimate examinations of any of the Institutes listed under the Associate or Fellowship grade of membership above.
  3. The Copperbelt University Bachelor of Accountancy degree with at least three years of relevant post qualifying experience.
  4. Zambia Diploma in Accountancy from Examination Council of Zambia with at least five years of relevant post qualifying experience.
  5. The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (financial Stream).
  6. The Institutes of Chartered Accountants in:

i)       India;

ii)     Pakistan;

iii)     Bangladesh; and

iv)     Sri-Lanka.

g)     The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India

 

h)       The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants in –

i)       Pakistan; and

ii)     Bangladesh.

 

i)         Members of the Institutes of Certified Public Accountants in –

i)       Kenya; and

ii)     Tanzania.

 

Technician Grade of Membership

  1. The Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants Technician Examinations.
  2. The Copperbelt University Degree in Accountancy
  3. The Zambia Diploma in Accountancy from Examination Council of Zambia
  4. The National Institute of Public Administration Accounting Technician Diploma.
  5. The Zambia State Insurance Business College Diploma in Financial Administration.
  6. The Association of Accounting Technicians of the United Kingdom.
  7. The foundation examination of any of the Institutes listed under the Associate or Fellowship grade of membership above.

 

NOTE: Please note that for any other accounting qualification that is not listed in the schedule above, the Institute has put in place an Evaluation criterion for assessing such qualifications into ZICA membership.
