The Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) is a self-regulated membership body, established under the Accountants Act of 1982 and as amended in the Accountants Act of 2008 has the primary mandate of regulating and promoting the accountancy profession in Zambia.

The current Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants is not renewing his contract at the end of November 2018. The Institute would like to recruit an outstanding, results oriented and self-motivated; versatile and a professional individual of high personal integrity with appropriate academic and professional qualifications and experience. The incumbent shall have a credible corporate leadership attributes to fill the leadership role of Chief Operating Officer, cum “the Secretary and Chief Executive Officer Designate”. Cum

The suitable candidate shall be expected to lead a highly qualified management team and staff to the realisation of the long term goal of making ZICA the most admired professional body in Zambia, regionally and globally within its competitive space.

The Chief Executive Officer shall be the chief advisor to the Council of the Institute as its Secretary.


Reporting to the Council of the Institute, the Secretary/ Chief Executive Officer will be responsible for the regulation and promotion of the accountancy profession in Zambia within the remit of the Accountants Act. In addition to the leadership role of the Institute, the Chief Executive Officer shall work closely with the President or Chairperson of Council in the management of the council business and in dealing with matters affecting the profession.

The Secretary / Chief Executive’s duties will include the provision of overall strategic leadership, validate the efficacy of the strategic direction and promote a culture of execution.

Specifically, the Chief Executive Officer shall be accountable to the Council for the following Key Roles and responsibilities

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  1. To regulate and promote the accountancy profession in accordance with the Accountants Act;
  2. To provide Strategic leadership in the planning, implementation and achievement of the overall strategic and financial objectives of ZICA;
  3. To enforce the legal and the regulatory framework for the growth of the accountancy profession in Zambia;
  4. To drive the effective and efficient collaboration and engagements with primary and secondary stakeholders to the profession;
  5. To provide advice to the Council on any unfolding developments in the accountancy profession particularly in the accountancy regulation and education landscape;
  6. To proactively implement strategic human resource management policies and execute effective performance management systems;
  7. To improve and promote teamwork of management and staff of the Institute;
  8. To be the main spokesperson of the Institute;
  9. To improve the enterprise risk management system for the Institute;
  10. To execute all decisions of Council in timeous manner;
  11. To provide secretarial services to the Council and its committees;
  12. To carry out any lawful assignments that the Chairperson of Council /President of the Institute may assignment;


  1. A full Grade 12 /Form V School Certificate;
  2. A Relevant Bachelor Degree, from a recognised University, in Business, Economics, Finance, Management or related field or relevant professional qualification;
  3. A Master or recognised Post graduate qualification in a relevant field of study;
  4. Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ of progressive corporate management experience with at least Seven (7) at senior Management level;
  5. A track record of strategy execution, resource and people management;
  6. Experience in good corporate governance practices;
  7. Good knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of the accountancy profession.


  1. Strong stakeholder management skills;
  2. Conversant with Financial, Marketing and Human Resource Management.
  3. Excellent interpersonal, lobbying and influencing skills with experience in engaging with all classes of stakeholders in the domestic, regional and international settings {clients, Government, partner organisations, Cooperating Partners, the Business Community and other stakeholder};
  4. Excellent oral and written communication;
  5. Possess the highest levels of personal integrity;

The successful candidate will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer in the execution of the strategic plan during the residue period of his (CEO) contract.
